Nathalie, founder of Twined
A few years back as she was still living in France, at Nantes on the Atlantic coast, Nathalie created a Japanese-inspired garden. Azaleas, Japanese maples, Kyoto moss and a river of white gravels welcoming family and friends. Stylish and clean design, purity and tranquillity.
After her master’s degree from La Sorbonne University in Paris, Nathalie worked in different roles, companies and locations in France. “Since my ‘Midnight Oil’ teenage years , I dreamt of discovering Australia, the mystical Uluru, the iconic Opera House, Harbour Bridge… When my husband was offered a relocation to Sydney, I was thrilled! I like to raise my teenagers in a multi-cultural environment. I also enjoy the fauna and flora, the climate and the friendly atmosphere.”
Discovering the art of kokedamas was a revelation for Nathalie. The clean moss ball carries the same attributes of stylish design, purity and tranquillity. When Nathalie was introduced to Makiko, a Japanese who migrated to Sydney a few years ago as well, Twined was born. The Japanese florist and the French nature lover share their love for plants, aesthetics and naturality.
“Shaping a kokedama is a kind of meditation for me, almost a therapy, a barrier against the (sometimes) fake digital world. With the botanical art, each ornament is unique and living, it’s very rewarding. I enjoy working with plants, but what I like the most is the smile they put on people’s faces. “
Nathalie is studying Urban Horticulture at TAFE Ryde College of Horticulture with the aim of specialising in plantscaping (also called “interiorscaping” or “plant styling”).
